Nice Shoes!

As I sit here, reveling in the fact that I have completed the momma sockey socks, (hellz yeah!) I thought I might share a little tale of something that happened while boygenius and I were a shopping at a local purveyor of yarn and general crafting supplies that is in no way knitting related...(since I finished the socks last night, I have no more tales of knitting inspired tragedy to tell quite yet...)

Saturday, we decided to go to this store in order to pick up some oil painting supplies for boygenius. He is currently embracing his inner Picasso, and beginning to paint for the first time. It 's extremely exciting!

As we were standing in line to pay for our massive haul of paint stuff, the woman in front of us in line turns to me smiling, and says in her sweetest voice (ok, so that's an assumption, since I don't know her from Adam) "Hey! I used to have Earth shoes."

(So I'm guessing its pretty obvious at this point that I wear earth shoes...they are comfy, I have wonky feet, they last forever, and I'm not exactly known for my stellar fashion sense. Most of the time I don't match or even consider matching, so I just tie em on and go.)

So, then instead of taking the moment to bond with me over our collective good choices in footwear, she follows up with:

"Yep, I had ones just like that. Its a good thing that they started making cute ones after they put out those though. They would have gone out of business!!!"

I stood there for a moment, with boygenius snickering under his breath. By the time the cashier had finished checking her out, boygenius was in a full blown state of quiet, but uncontrollable laughter.

Yep. This is how I ended up having my shoes insulted by a random stranger while minding my own business on the day after black Friday.

OK, so I do admit that they are ugly...in a "so ugly you can't help but love em " kind of way. Here's a link so you can see for yourself:

So could this be some form of cosmic wardrobe assistance? Message from the personal shopper in the sky? I think its time to throw this footwear question out to the peanut gallery. So you tell tell me... too fug for words? Middlin'? Or fine enough to keep my feet cozy? Whatcha think?

You aren't old enough to remember the original Earth shoes from the 70s. Yours are nowhere near ugly. Actually quite presentable by comparison.

By the way, Roots started out as a shoe store touting negative heel shoes. There's an interesting link here.

I was totally unfamiliar with "Roots" until I read that article. It was pretty intersting. Gets the gears turning on just what exactly makes people go ape for a fad...
