Tutorial: Make your own Beaded Stitch Markers!

Hey Y'all.
Its Friday night, and I'm feeling froggy. Do ya know what that means?

Me neither. But as a result of the froggy madness I'm posting a tutorial for the nifty beaded stitch markers that I decided to make tonight.

Here goes:

Supplies:

  • Gather 1 knitting needle (larger than the size of needle that you want to use the marker on..I'd say by 2 or 12 sizes, you know, I'm very scientific with this stuff.) I used a size 13 because it was what I had handy and it should make markers that work with everything up to like a size 8 or larger circs.
  • A pair of your favorite trusty wire cutting needle nosed pliers or general wire cutting dohickamajobbers.
  • one spool of non tarnishing wire. I used 20 gauge wire, and I think its perfect.
  • various beads with tiny holes that will fit snugly on the wire.
  • Glue if you are feeling as froggy as I am or you are very anxious about them lasting till the end of time.

My gathered supplies looked like this:

Furgenius inspected the materials to make sure they were up to snuff.

So, first things first.
Grab your needle and your wire, and wrap the needle with the wire three times. Any more than 3 can make it less fun to cut. You can tell from some of the photos that I learned this lesson firsthand.

Remove this coil or wire from the needle and grab your needle nosed pliers/ wire cutters.

Guess what you do next...Yep. You cut the wrapped wire with your wire cutter. You are such a good guesser!

Now, take one of the individual loops that you cut ( you can see that the ends are slightly separated from one another. If they aren't, then push them apart. It works best if you separate them by pushing up and down on the ends instead of out on the sides..It makes for a more circular finished product...)

Now, slip the bead on one end of the wire circle. Add a drop of glue if you are looking for permanence. Put the other end of the wire in the other hole of the bead. The bead should not slide.

Now, enjoy your handiwork and repeat as many times as you like.

Enjoy the sparkly shininess and have a great weekend!
