Time of ya life.

Ah, 2009. It seems like we just rang in the new century like a second ago, and now its already 2009!

Bear with me here....I've got a little theory about time speeding up as you age because the length of time any thing "feels like" it takes is in proportion to how much time you have already spent breathing, knitting, and sleeping and such. Make no sense? What it boils down to is that things seem to take forever when you are a kid, because technically, since you haven't been around that long it really does take a large portion of your time. Summer feels like forever because you have only had five or six or twelve of em. By the time you roll around to 30, a summer can pass in a blink, and by the time you are 50 I'm sure its like less than half a blink.

You might be asking yourself "How does all this tie into the stuff that belongs in a knitting blog?" Yeah, I'm not really sure on that one myself. (sometimes I babble randomly. Shocking, I know.)

In honor of the new year, I'm going to document the rules that I want my knitting to live by this year, so here goes:

1. If a sweater is torturing me to the point of insanity -frog the bastard!!! (I'm talking to you, Minimalist Cardigan) There is only so much knitting time, and my knitting should not be a fight to the death. I'm all for challenges, but some things are not meant to be. I need to let some things go to the great frog pond in the sky and not feel all guilty and twitchy about it.

2. I should get measurements of the feet of all sock loving relatives now, ages before the holidays so by the time they receive them, I have had both ample time to knit them, and they have had ample time to forget that I am a freak who measures feet at family gatherings.

3. I need to work my way through the backlog of stash that lives in my bedroom dresser even if the handspun is calling my name. My clothes are stacked all over God's green country since the yarn has taken over the drawers. Its getting out of hand and if I don't keep my stash comfortable it might stage a coup and take over the whole apartment.

4. Now that I am comfortable with the basics, its totally time to get all fancy. I want to teach myself all kinds of new techniques. Initially, I thought I would do one per week... I know myself a little better than that. One new technique twice a month feels do-able. Hopefully these learning adventures will make good blog.

5. I want to be a better photographer. Since Boygenius gifted me with the camera of my dreams I have been fiddlin with more bells and whistles than I knew existed. Here are a few of my preliminary test photos of non yarn related Christmas Splendor:

I'm such a sucker for Christmas kitsch. I'm totally powerless against it. And these mice just wanted to come live at my house and I couldn't refuse. I mean, look at em!

I also have a special place in my heart for the sock monkey in the background of the top pic.

Boy genius scared the ever loving bejesus out of Tim Robbins with that sock monkey. I sewed the monkey for Boygenius when we were dating, and he took it to Los Angeles on vacation with him so he could photograph it at the landmarks around town. While he was in front of Mann's Chinese Theater he spotted Tim Robbins so he tried to get him to pose with the monkey for a photo. Before Boygenius could hand over the monkey, Tim took off. He was severely weirded out.

Can't say that I can't see where 'ole Tim was coming from. I'd be a bit freaked if a 6'8" dude was trying to shove a sock monkey in my face for no apparent reason. Good times.

And, since we are talking about things I'm powerless against, I thought I would throw in this totally non-staged, just as it is pic of my urping fiber stash that lives in the living room.

Now I'm distracted by all the cute, the random story babbling, and the fiber is making my hands all itchy to spin some more....Um, what was I talking about again?

Oh yeah, 2009 knitting. and picture taking. I know that I'm no Brooklyn tweed, but the day will come where I will make some foxy-fine pics of some knitting to be proud of.

6. Finally finish the designing, knitting, and finishing work on my epic Seaside Sweater (with the cool beach stone buttons).

And now, since I am seriously sleepy and distracted, I'm going to tuck in for the night. But before I go, I want to ask you: What are your knitting goals for the year?
