Is this seat taken?

Alright, I admit it. I got to the store and I wussed out. I mean, there were nearly a million billion blue-zillion people in there, and it had the makings of bad high school cafeteria flashbacks. Knitting folks are decidedly nicer than your average high schooler, but I still wussed.

I was having one of those rare "full geekdom" days where you couldn't pry the small talk out of me with the jaws of life. It probably would have gone something like: The weather? Huh? Nice cashmere ya got there....What? unhhhh.....nice stitchwork. ummmmm...

Oh well. Some days I'm just not meant to be social. But I'll try again next time.

The good news is that the trip was not a total loss. I managed to score some bombyx silk top, some heathery green merino alpaca blend and some foxy-fine dark brown baby alpaca. I just want to squish it. Then I mosey-ed on home to finish spinning and plying the last of my BFL and hang out with the boy genius.

Saturday I rocked the house like a woman on fire. Boy genius started his new work schedule, where he works on Saturdays and I decided to get some much needed errands run.

Wedding present for next weekend? Check. Return those library books? Check. Cooking second rate Indian food from a not so hot recipe? Check. Most exciting, I bought a bed frame! Our old one died circa 2001, and we never took the time to replace it till now.

(Yes, I do in fact get excited about bed frames. You can see why I geek in public).

Ah, you should have seen the salesman's face when I told him I needed to fit that frame in my Corolla. Pure poetry. But we did manage to shoehorn that sucker in there, and after a little bit of wrestling with the box spring and mattress I got the thing assembled and in place completely solo (*unless you count helpful suggestions from fur genius, who was telling me that the best plan of attack was to plop on it and take a nap).

After the bed was done, I hung the piece of framed wrought iron that we use as a headboard, a wreath and a nifty antique scale on the walls, and I generally cleared all household flat surfaces of their respective piles of crap. Ah, it was glorious! I can now declare our apartment to feel like home, and not just some two bit motel.

The bedroom actually feels so nice that I spent a good amount of celebratory knitting time on the bed admiring all of my hard work. I love it when a plan comes together.

On Sunday, I washed and whacked the BFL that I finished while boy genius ran errands. I'm pretty satisfied with the way it turned out. I'm getting far more consistent with my spinning and plying, making progress every time I sit at the wheel. It feels really good. So now I can be happy spinning in a cozy apartment that feels like home.

Now, if only I could figure out how to run sheep at an apartment complex my life would be complete.
