ewwwe....the mall.

I did something this weekend I rarely do...I went to the mall. Lured by a mailer for a free Aveda perfume (yum), I headed back into a sorted tryst with the black heart of retail and it made me remember why it is that we broke up in the first place.

Its interesting when you reach a point in your life where you can see that your priorities have clearly shifted-knowing that I once worked in a mall, schilling and buying whatever it was that looked shiniest at the given moment. Now I find myself saving the scraps of things as they wear out, planning on how to make them into something different when I want something new.

Maybe its gaining some age and perspective on the world. Maybe its knowing that the trappings don't matter as much as the experience. I think knitting has taught me this lesson, and retold it to me with each stitch-the process has shown me that you can start with something, and it is the experience that dictates intricacy or simplicity.

I wandered past shop windows , passing things that hardly interested me. I was far more interested in the people I passed. Then I realized that I was starting to sound like a fortune cookie...It was most definitely time to leave.
