I can now safely say that my self-imposed waiting period for avoiding mechanical failures has passed, and I think we are safely through to the other side of the tunnel. Good stuff.
In between waiting for various repair people to come to the house this past weekend, I managed to get a few things done. I cleaned like a maniac, then I spun and plied up a bunch of "Scotch" 30/70 merino alpaca blend from cjkopeccreations on etsy. It spun up to a fine fingering weight, almost lace weight. Not too sure at this point if it will end up being knit into the socks I had planned for Boygenius, or if it will find another purpose. Of course, I could always double it up as I knit or buy 4 more ounces to spin and cable them...Right now its still drying, so I can't tell just how much it will bloom.

Furgenius woke me up at the insanely early hour of 3am for chow. She had been feeling poorly lately, (she has IBS, and has periodic flare ups) and shes hasn't been eating enough. I can look past the early morning wake up call and just be happy that shes excited about chowing down.
Another fun part of a Furgenius with IBS is trying to get her to take a prednisone pill. Giving cats pills is never fun, but I have a circus act for a cat. She hides pills under her tongue for literally up to 5 minutes at a time, only to spit it out on the carpet as soon as you think that she has finally swallowed. Even if you look in her mouth to make sure its swallowed, she is still hiding the doggone thing. You have to search the perimeter of the carpet to find the soggy pill remnants. The kid has gumption. I'll give her that.
The early morning wake up call gave me the opportunity to enjoy the calm and to do some more early morning spinning before work. Now, I'm not normally a "get up early before work and ease into your day" kind of girl...I'm more often the "get out of bed ten minutes before you have to leave, throw on what you can find and get to work" kind of girl. It was strangely enjoyable to be up drinking coffee and spinning while most of the city was still sleeping. It gave me time to ease into the day instead of starting it like I've been shot out of a canon. Its also nice to feel like you have accomplished something before you step out the front door for the day.
Speaking of accomplishments, I'm in the process of circling the wagons and gathering materials for a not necessarily knitting or spinning related tutorial that should be posted in a day or two. Till then, I'll provide you with this little hint...One of the things in this photo was brought home especially for use in the creation of this marvelous gem of a thing.

Hey, thanks for the tip about TinkerToy swifts. The problem for me is not finding the instructions to make one -- it's finding a place that sells TinkerToys! (I have tried this already, you see. Although I suspect that if I'd been willing to traipse through Toys R Us, I might have had more success.)
Anyway, at the LYS where I took my spinning class, the owner sells umbrella swifts made by her dad. He's a nice guy and I trust him to make a much better swift than I ever could. And seeing that my birthday is next month...
I could just drink up your "Scotch" all day long! It's super yummy. Also, I've given up on giving my cat pills. I crush them up, mix them in a tiny bit of water to make a liquid, and shoot it in their mouths with a syringe. They don't like it and drool and salivate all over the place, but at least I know they got most of it. Are you making a lightbox? That's what I would make with that cardboard box. Can't wait to see your tutorial!
