And Now for Something Completely Random...

In the million and fifty years since I last posted anything, the following things have occurred:

1. I have finished the hemlock ring, and cursed extensively as my blocking boards were not big enough to properly block it as tightly as I would like. But the blanket is beautiful and a crazy fast knit.

2. I have finished 2 pairs of Bella's Mittens-(one for me and one for boygenius who saw them and fell in love with big cabled mittens that vaguely resemble the coolest oven mitts ever).

3. I have lost my cell phone in a rain storm. Its lifeless carcass was found by a neighbor who decided it would be a smashing idea to sit it out on the front stoop of our apartment building so it could then be stolen by a random passerby. Note to phone thief: I shake my fist at you, random phone stealing stranger. You are made of suck.

4. Boygenius and I bought a new mattress and now for the first time in 7 years, I can sleep without feeling like random body parts were going to fall off in the morning. Yay for big people beds that my feet don't hang off of and yay for high thread count sheets! Yay for curling up in said bed and knitting my freaking brains out!

5. Boygenius and I have celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversary, and the 5th birthday of the diabolical Furgenius.

6. Oh yeah, and this happened:

Yes, thats me dressed up as a clown. And yes, I am riding a motorized toilet.
Don't ask.

An Open Letter to my Knitting.

My Darling Knitting,

Sometimes I feel like we could use a little time apart. Some space. Distance, You know, to realize just how good we have it when we are together. Even with a love so strong, I sometimes need to take a step back. It's not you, darling. It's me. I keep telling myself that its not actually cheating...That we were on a break, and I was free to see other crafts. There. I said it. Oh knitting, will you ever forgive me? Its true.

I made curtains for the bathroom...and I liked it!

Love,
Skeingenius.

Handspun Garter Stitch Shawls are Like the Crack Rock.

Garter stitch shawls are like the new knitters crack rock. They are the kryptonite to my Superman, and the poprocks in my coca cola. and I admit that I am fully addicted and powerless to stop. They are my new(est) secret weakness.

Yes, I started another one. I promised myself that I wouldn't start any new projects until after I got back from Peru, but I just couldn't wait. It was the ball winding that was my downfall. I decided to use the gap of non-knitting time to wind up balls of hand spun from skeins so they would be ready to go when I got back and dagnabit! My fingers got itchy, I started to sweat...and like 5 minutes later I was a fallen knitter. I cast on that puppy and there was no looking back.

But its sooooo pretty! Rustic and happy. And warm. Did I mention that I'm sure it will be warm?

I said to myself : "Self, ( you have to call yourself something when its gets all "third person" up in your head, and sometimes I don't think I know myself well enough to be on a first name basis) You gots to have some sort of project going so you have something to keep you busy at break time at work. And good heavens! What would happen if you didn't have bus knitting? It would get really ugly really fast."

Oh, and the yarn is fantastic. It's that CJ Kopek Creations"Scotch" 70/30 alpaca merino blend that Sistagenius got me for Christmas and I blogged about a million years ago (or back in January). Pics to come later, as usual.

love and kisses,
Skeingenius
