Spinnin' again!

So I just got back from spinning class number 2, and I really do love it. Spinning on a wheel is amazing! It is a million times more exciting to me than working on a drop spindle, the rhythm and flow of it is indescribable.

I worked on two different ashford wheels, the traditional and a traveler. I spun a bobbin's worth of Wensleydale on each. The traveler had a bit of a wobble to it, so I don't think that it got a totally fair shake, but it did give me the opportunity to try to trouble shoot a problem with a wheel, which is pretty helpful info to have.

The traditional was the first wheel that I got a chance to spin on, with the largest, slowest whorl, and it really was a pleasure. I love spinning. It was steady on the floor and I really liked the fit of my feet on the treadles. The scale of the wheel was in good proportion to my size, and I just had an overall good impression of the wheel. (I do wonder if part of the positivity comes from the fact that it was my first taste of the wheel based fibercrack, but I still can't deny the lure of it. )

The wobble of the traveler was annoying and whorl was smaller, so I was having a bit more trouble with feeding the fiber into the orifice without allowing it to get over spun. I think I need to try another traveler with the same size whorl in order to give it a truly fair shake.

I'm looking forward to going to the Hoosier Hills fiber fest at the first of June so I can possibly give a few more wheels a go. Its coming up pretty quickly.

anywhooo...

Got my fiber from Copperpot Woolies when I got home from the lesson, and boy howdy was it pretty! I can't wait to get spinning on it. I'm very satisfied with the quality and general fuzzy woolly pretty factor of the wool. It showed up hella fast too. I'll probably order again.

have a good Memorial Day weekend kiddies!

its official.

Yeah.

I admit it. Stick a fork in me. I'm done! There is no going back now. Its all over. If there was ever a point of no return , I smiled and waved as I walked over that threshold.

I 'm a spinner.

I love it. The fiber crack got me!

Hellz yeah!

My First Spinning Class Is this Afternoon!

Only like 8 hours till my first spinning class! I'm so excited that I could hardly sleep last night... It was seriously like the night before Christmas morning ....I've been looking so forward to learning!

Its only when you first start to delve into the world of spinning (at least for me) that you realize just how incredibly limited your education has been in the world or fiber.

But the good news is that there is an explosion of resources out there for newbs like myself. The folks on Ravelry couldn't be more generous with their time or knowledge, and I tip my lukewarm cup of coffee to them!

(hey, its 8 in the morning. you use what you got :) )

I'll be back later to post an update on my adventure. stay tuned!
