Yesterday Karen's comment about de stashing novelty yarn got my gears turning...What do you do with those random skeins of sadly unloved novelty yarns that are wasting away in the stash? How can you work with them and not make it look like you skinned your favorite Muppet so you could knit with its pelt?
Its a question for the ages.
Don't get me wrong, I love me some crazy Muppety colors (and Muppets in general for that matter) but when it comes to the items that I wear, or will display in my home the color palette tends to be a bit more muted, and the people around me aren't reproducing quickly enough to keep up with the amount of kid sweaters and accessories that it would require to deplete the stash.
Most novelty yarns are all crazy in texture, which could lend its self nicely to rugs, and the colors could be muted enough by holding them together with other strands of yarn or possibly strips of fabric. Yeah! a good old fashioned rag rug with sneaky hidden novelty yarn...I think I'm going to have to start digging through the fabric scraps to see what I have.
If you are interested in possibly doing this for yourself, the blog "Little House in the Suburbs" has a darn fine tutorial on it posted here:

You should totally check it out. I think this just might be the next big project after I finish the hug me tight and my over the forest socks. It could look mighty fine in my kitchen I do believe.
and it means that all those poor Muppets will not have died in vain.

Fun fur would make a nice, muppety rug, but ribbon yarn would be perfect for this project too; say, all that Lion Brand Incredible I have stashed in the under-bed box I never look in?
Hmmm...
