Now that the newness has worn off the idea of this trip to Peru, its time to start getting down to taking care of the details. You know, the small stuff. Stuff that you might just want to consider for a moment when you are wandering through foreign lands.
Tiny, minute details.
Like the fact that I don't speak Spanish. Neither does my sister. Yeah, so that high school french I took instead of Spanish will really come in handy (that was such a great call. Best...decision...ever. )
I realize that this could be more than a bit of an issue, especially when you don't want to be the quintessential "stupid American tourist" who expects everyone to bend to your will So, I've got some handy dandy "teach yourself Spanish" stuff out of the library. I have 2 months to learn, so I think I should be at least passable to get through the basics if I put my mind to it...I think I'm good with language and from scanning the books I can make out most meanings if I think about things. My biggest challenge will be being able to speak when spoken to. Answering folks will be the trouble...unless everyone is up for a good game of charades :)
Who doesn't love charades?

Hmm, some knowledge of Spanish would be helpful when going to a Spanish-speaking country, wouldn't it? Good luck!
